Join us as we unveil a truly special mural created by our community, for our community. This vibrant piece, crafted during the 2nd annual Multicultural Festival of Elmira (MFE), celebrates diversity, inclusion, and the beauty of our community in the rural township. On Friday, October 18 at 6:30 PM, we warmly invite you to the Woolwich Memorial Centre for a special reveal ceremony that honours the rich diversity, unity and vibrant community spirit of Woolwich Township.

What to Expect

The evening will begin with a territorial acknowledgment, followed by remarks from HOPE founder Abby Cooper, mural lead artist Alana Decker, Mayor Sandy Shantz, and others who contributed to this impactful project. We’ll then make our way over to the mural where we will unveil the incredible art piece created by our community.

Snacks and beverages will be served.

How It Came to Life

At the heart of this mural is the shared vision of bringing our diverse community together through art. The mural project began at the Multicultural Festival of Elmira, where artist Alana Decker worked with the MFE team to co-design a paint-by-numbers mural. Festival attendees of all ages and backgrounds took part in adding their brushstrokes to this 6’x6′ masterpiece, making it a true community effort.

Why It Matters

The mural was created as a way to symbolize the inclusivity and unity that we strive to foster in our community. At HOPE, we believe in the power of art to tell stories, bridge differences and celebrate the unique identities of everyone in Woolwich Township. This mural represents a shared vision of what diversity looks like in our community, reminding us of the importance of coming together and embracing our differences.

The Impact on Our Community

In a world that can sometimes feel divided, this mural is a powerful reminder that we are stronger together. It’s about creating spaces where everyone feels seen, valued and connected. By participating in this project, community members became part of something bigger, creating a lasting symbol of collaboration and respect that will inspire future generations.
