The Canadian Dream Theatre Production Oct 2026

Join us for The Canadian Dream: An Interactive Forum Theatre Experience on Newcomer Housing Precarity, Homelessness, & Isolation

What happens when the journey to a new life leads to unsheltered homelessness? Presented by the  Outta Work Actors Kaleidoscope Two Minute Play Laboratory in partnership with Social Development Centre Waterloo Region and hosted by Indigenous Creatives United, The Canadian Dream is an interactive, Forum Theatre play inspired by the true story of Mauleek Bhatt—an international student and skilled professional from India who experienced homelessness in Kitchener.

Created through the Kaleidoscope Two Minute Play Laboratory, this is not a passive night at the theatre. In Act II, you become a "spect-actor," invited onto stage to cocreate solutions, discuss possibilities,  and address systemic housing barriers.

Join us Wednesday, October 16 at Victoria (Willow River) Park Pavilion (Doors open 6:30 PM). Supported by the Festival of Neighbourhoods and Civic Hub, the play is followed by an All-Candidates Sharing Circle with local Ward 9 Municipal and Kitchener based regional council candidates as well as Kitchener Mayoral Candidates. Admission is free! Reserve your seat at OuttaWorkActors.com with pwyc donation.

The Gratitude Table Community Dinner October 20th, 2026

Join us for The Gratitude Table, an intercultural Thanksgiving dinner under the theme “Rooted in Gratitude, Connected Across Cultures.” This gathering brings people from different cultural, faith, and community backgrounds together to share food, stories, and traditions of gratitude.

Although our traditions may differ, gratitude gives us common ground. By sharing a meal and listening to one another, we recognize what we have received - and consider what we can give back to our community.

The evening will include reflections from people of different cultures, faiths, and age groups, alongside guided table conversations exploring how gratitude can inspire generosity, kindness, and care for one another.

Date: Tuesday, October 20, 2026
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Venue: Kitchener Portuguese Club, 1548 Fischer-Hallman Rd, Kitchener, ON N2R 0R7
Admission: $20 per person (dinner included)

A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to support a food bank program in Waterloo Region.
