The 2026 Multicultural Festival of Elmira Community Mural

Community Mural Reveal: A Day of Art, Culture, and Connection

Join us for the unveiling of the 4th annual Multicultural Festival’s (MFE) Community Mural designed by local artist Miho Nagayama! The event starts at 11:00 AM sharp – don’t miss the speeches, complimentary pastries, and an activity to pick up (while supplies last), which you can choose to complete at the café or take it home with you!

You might remember Local Renaissance as one of our amazing vendors at the festival where everyone got to enjoy their delicious beverages! During the Mural Reveal event, you can purchase anything from their full menu, including hot and iced drinks and delicious snacks to enjoy while we celebrate as a community.

Visitors are encouraged to take photos beside the new mural and share them with us on social media using @heartsopenforeveryone or #MultiFestElmira.

About the Artist

This year’s mural was designed by Miho Nagayama, a designer and illustrator and the Creative Lead at the Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association. Having developed her artistic practice independently and through local artisan markets, she has brought public art to life across Waterloo and Kitchener – including street banners, picnic tables, and a trailer wrap.

Nature, florals, and animals recur throughout Miho’s illustrations. For this mural, she envisioned a vibrant collection of flowers and pollinators—including birds, butterflies, and bees—to represent the strength and resilience that comes from diversity within a community. The movement of pollinators also reflects the many different journeys people take before coming together to share and nurture a community

With a simple, illustrative style, Miho hoped the mural would give community members of all ages and skill levels the opportunity to be creative, contribute to something meaningful, and see their individual work become part of a larger collective piece.
